Sustainable Tourism
Taiwan is committed to steering the tourism industry towards sustainability and digitization, crafting superior travel experiences and pioneering services and initiatives. Many of Taiwan’s initiatives have earned recognition from the Green Destinations Foundation. Cycling tourism is promoted as both a form of recreation and a way to explore scenic landscapes.
Taiwan received two wins at the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards 2025 for the sustainable tourism efforts of Yilan Park National Center for Traditional Arts and Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area. Sun Moon Lake is a beautiful alpine lake located near the center of Taiwan in Nantou County, and a popular spot for tourists and cyclists. The bike trail around the lake has been described by CNN as one of the word’s best cycling routes “where visitors can enjoy lake scenery, experience Thao aboriginal culture and learn about the local ecology in the Nantou County.”
